Electrophoretic Discrimination of Species of the Muscidifurax (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) Complex
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe systematics of Muscidifurax (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), a parasitoid of the housefly, has been studied using gel electrophoresis of enzymes. Electrophoretic techniques have been perfected for the genetic analysis of Muscidifurax. These methods reveal "fixed" genetic differences between biotypes not previously detected by the conventional methods of classification. Estimates of the phylogeny of Muscidifurax have been made that display some congruence with the available morphological data. The significance of this analysis with respect to the use of Muscidifurax in biological control is discussed.
