Kinetic Modeling of Mesophilic Digestion of Swine Manure Containing an Antibiotic Inhibitor (Methane, Biogas)

Abstract

dc:description

A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the Monod kinetic parameters associated with the design and operation of mesophilic digestion of swine manure containing the antibiotic chlortetracycline (CTC). The experimental design was set up to determine the effects retention time (RT) and antibiotic concentration had on the fermentation process. Also, addition of the pure form of the antibiotic to the control substrate was examined. Antibiotic concentrations of 0, 25, 50 and 100 grams CTC per ton of feed were tried at 8-, 12-, 20- and 30-day RT's at an influent substrate concentration of 3 percent volatile solids.
