Investigations into the relationship between molar form and function provided the theoretical basis for this investigation. The basic thesis can be summarized as follows: given that molar form is important in food-processing, and given that molar form changes with wear, animals with different diets might be expected to show differences in tooth wear related to their differences in diet.
