Solid-State Chemistry of Benzophenone Anils (x-Ray, Crystallography)

Abstract

dc:description

The crystal structures of some benzophenone anils were determined by X-ray diffraction. In five of the six structures the molecules adopted the trans configuration. The strong preference for this isomer in the solid state is in sharp contrast to the behavior in solution where previous workers found that both isomers are present in nearly equal amounts at equilibrium.
