Computer Techniques in Analysing Human Adventitious Lung Sounds

This thesis investigates the feasibility of applying digital signal processing and pattern recognition techniques to analyse human adventitious lung sounds, which are distinct sound patterns superimposed onto the normal breath sound and are indicative of certain lung diseases. A software program is written which, upon analysing the acoustic data by several signal processing methods, will classify the lung sounds into one of the three general categories, namely, normal breath sound, wheezes or crackles.
