Decoupled Stability Analysis of Power Systems With Slow and Fast Dynamics
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis thesis deals with the stability analysis of large-scale power systems with strong and weak interconnections. The system dynamical model belongs to the class of two-time-scale, nonlinear, singularly perturbed systems. Through a near-identity coordinate transformation, the slow and fast dynamics are partially decoupled, allowing for independent stability studies in the slow and fast subspaces. The decoupled subsystems can be physically interpreted as smaller size power systems. On a higher hierarchy, a weighted sum of the Lyapunov functions of the decoupled slow and fast subsystems is used as a Lyapunov function for the original two-time-scale system, thus accounting for the effect of the small coupling terms. Two case studies confirm the improved accuracy of the decoupled stability analysis method as compared to that for the system wide stability analysis methods.
