Synthesis and alignment of gold nanorods for optical applications
Abstract
dc:descriptionGold nanorods are of great interest in many areas of science and technology due to their versatility and electro-optical properties. There are simple synthesis methods that allow for shape control and the ability to change the chemistry on the surface of the gold nanorods. One of the interesting properties of gold nanorods is their ability to locally enhance electromagnetic fields in the vicinity of the ends of the nanorods. This enhancement can be increased and additive when multiple gold nanorods are aligned and can be useful for sensing and plasmonic enhancement. This study of alignment and surface chemistry of gold nanorods is to help elucidate simplistic ways to create large arrays of patterned gold nanorods through shear and directed assembly.
