Estimating the parameters of a Thévenin equivalent system based on output voltage and current measurements: computational challenges and simulated studies
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis thesis presents a study of the computational challenges when estimating the Thévenin equivalent parameters at a large-scale power system network based on local measurements. The estimation will use a common mathematical method for an overdetermined system. The motivation is taken from phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements at specific nodes across a transmission line for monitoring purposes. The ac equivalent system is simplified to a small dc circuit to study the possibility of encountering an ill-conditioned measurement set. Finally a second estimation technique, based on noisy measurements, is presented and compared against the first.
