Thermal boundary resistance

The acoustic mismatch theory for the thermal boundary (Kapitza) resistance has peen modified so as to include the effect of phonon attenuation near the interface. The modified theory is in good agreement below 0.2 K with present measurements on metal-dielectric interfaces and with previous measurements at liquid He-solid interfaces. The influence of the electron-phonon interaction on the thermal boundary resistance was studied experimentally, both as a phonon attenuating mechanism which may lower the boundary resistance and as an additional thermal resistance which appears between the electrons and phonons in thin metal foils.
