Helium-3 elastic, inelastic, and charge-exchange scattering from lithium-6 at 24.6 and 27.0 MeV
Abstract
dc:descriptionA target consisting of 6Li evapOlrated OlntOl a carbon foil backing was bombarded with the 3He beam from the University of Illinois cyclotron. Solid state detectors in /\E - E' telescopes were used tc obtain energy spectra of the scattered 3He and of tritons from the charge exchange reaction. Differential cross sections were determined for elastic scattering inelastic scattering tD the first two excited states of 6Li, and the (3He ,t) charge exchange reaction to the ground state of 6Be~ at energies of 24.6 and 27.0 MeV over angular ranges of approximately 200 to 1150 or more (cm). In order to observe the transition tOl the 3.56 MeV second excited state of 6Li, it was necessary to require a coincidence with the recoil nucleus at most Df these angles. The cross sections for this transition are compared to those for the charge=exchange reaction.
