Multiperipheral models in high energy scattering

"Phenomenological studies are made of two multiperipheral models. The first part, of the thesis is an application of the multi Regge model to the process n- p -> TT+ pi-. pi"""" p at .5 GeV Ic. A good description of the data is obtained, including fits to n'llll'!erous multi-particle distributions. We find that predicted dif£ractive slopes are systematically high. Comments on duality and on the Trelman-Yang angle distribution, as they apply to this model, are made. The second part of the thesis is an application of the multiperipheral model to inelastic electron-proton scattering. The form factor vW2 for this process is numerically evaluated in a multiperipheral model with scalar couplings, and in a generalization of this model which allows form factors to accompany. the pion exchange. It is found that although the models are theoretically seale invariant in the sense that ""W2 approaches a finite limit as (l-7> -00, this limit is ,approached very slowly; for values of Iq21 .tV 1-7 (GeV/c)2. exprimentally attainable at sac, the models have not reached their scale invariant limits."
