Electron tunneling into superconducting mercury films below one degree Kelvin
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe tunneling characteristics of an aluminum-aluminum oxide-mercury junction have been measured at temperatures down to Oo35°K. Additional structure over that seen in an earlier, higher-temperature experiment is reported. The data have been analyzed through the use of a computer program based on the strong-coupling theory. The effective phonon spectrum and the complex energy gap function for mercury are thereby derived. Values for the electron self energy function, the electron renormalization function, Coulomb pseudopotentia1, and the electron-phonon interaction constant are also determined.
