Heat capacity of dilute solutions of liquid He[superscript 3] in He[superscript 4] at low temperatures
Abstract
dc:descriptionHeat capacity measurements were made on two dilute solutions of 1iquid He3 in He4. These data, taken under saturated vapor o 0 pressure at temperatures between .005 K and .20 K, are characteristic of an ideal Fermi gas with m'l'< dependent only slightly on concentration. The solution with a molar concentration of Re3 of (1.32 ± .01)% had a degeneracy temperature of (.141 ± .002)oK and m*/m = 2.38 ±.04. For the solution with a (5.02 -+ .03)% concentration of He3 the degenetacy temperature was (.331 ± .004)oK while m*/m = 2,46 ± .04. The slight dependence of m* on concentration can be explained in, terms of the Landau theory of a Fermi liquid. The perturbation method, which Bardeen, Baym j and Pines used to determine an,effective potential v(q) between He 3 quasiparticles from later data on the magnetic properties of these solutions, was used to estimate the low temperature contribution of the He 3 quasipartic1es to the thermal conductivity and viscosity of dilute solutions.
