Chinese-American and Japanese-American college students' perceptions and attitudes: Asian heritage in contact with the American cultural environment

"Ten Chinese American and ten Japanese American students were interviewed individually and in a group setting to record their perceptions regarding conflicts between their Asian heritage and the American environment. This qualitative study recorded the conflicting perceptions which illustrate the difference between Asian American experiences and those of white Americans. The significant differences found were differentiation based on physiognomy, stereotyping based on generalizations of ""model minority,"" and racism from negative perceptions of ""those Orientals."""
