Viscoelastic response of wound polymer cord with multiple filament cross-sections

In this thesis, the Theory of Wire Rope, developed by George Costello, is modified to include the time-dependent response of twisted polymer fibers under an applied axial load. This modified theory incorporates the cord material's response by utilizing the Wiechert model and the Schapery collocation method. The geometric effects are then combined with the material properties in order to develop a solution for the stress-strain relationships in the cord. This approach involves convolution integrals. The solution to these integrals is approximated numerically by a technique developed by E. H. Lee and T. G. Rogers at Brown University. Several examples using this modified theory are discussed.
