dc:descriptionThe basic purpose of this study was to determine the current status of principal evaluation in Illinois high school districts and to compare them with best practice as articulated by the Personnel Evaluation Standards. The six research questions that prompted this study were: (a) What is the purpose of the evaluation system set up for principals? (b) What type of criteria is used? (c) Are standards set for each of the criteria? (d) What data (instruments/evidence) are used in the process? (e) Who is involved in the evaluation process? and (f) How do the evaluation systems compare with the Personnel Evaluation Standards as articulated by the Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation?
