What do moguls want? Flight of the controlled eagle: Republic Pictures from 1935 to 1959 (cultural and economic case history of a creative enterprise). (Volumes I and II)
Abstract
dc:description"The best control is that which leaves freedom for innovation and creativity. Like many media companies, Republic was divided into a number of semi-autonomous production units. The resulting ""bounded chaos"" (Hubler 1989) insulated each unit from influence and ""entrainment"" by the others. It protected the company as a whole by spreading risk."
