Multiparadigm visual programming languages
Abstract
dc:descriptionSuccessful visual programming languages are all specialized, and general-purpose visual programming languages are unsuccessful. One of the reasons is that visual programming languages are usually based on a single programming paradigm. A multiparadigm visual programming language is described and used to argue that multiparadigm visual programming languages can make visual programming suitable for general purpose programming. The language, called Visual ToolSet, is based on a collection of simple visual languages. Each simple language is based on a particular paradigm and solves a particular kind of programming problem. The paradigms implemented in Visual ToolSet are data flow, control flow, query-by-example, and programming-by-example.
