Growth analysis of soybean in differing row widths
Abstract
dc:descriptionTo study the effect of row width on the growth of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill), an experiment was conducted at the South Farm of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during 1992 and 1993. The soybean cultivar Elgin (Group II) was planted at 180,000 and 250,000 plants per hectare in 1992 and 1993 respectively, in 38, 76, 114 and 152 cm apart rows, in a RCB design with nine replications. At about weekly intervals, samples from each experimental unit were examined for leaf area (LA), leaf weight (LW), stem weight (SW), pod weight, yellow leaf weight and developmental stage. Plant height, branches per plant, pods per plant, and yield data were recorded at maturity. Protein content and percent oil of the seed were also determined.
