Lane assignment on automated highway systems
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe automation of highways as part of the IVHS program is seen as a way to alleviate congestion on urban highways. This thesis discusses the concept of lane assignment in the context of automated highway systems (AHS). Lane assignments represent the scheduling of the path taken by vehicles once they enter an automated multi-lane corridor. In this thesis, we formulate the static lane assignment problem as an optimization problem. We establish a classification of lane assignment strategies, beginning from totally unconstrained strategies and ending with partitioned strategies.
