Plasticity and non-simple materials

Abstract

dc:description

"The connection between non-simple materials and plasticity is explored. The thermodynamic relations of conventional rate-independent plasticity and various classes of second-deformation-gradient plasticity are derived within the context of a theory with internal variables using the ""Coleman-Noll"" procedure. Models of conventional and gradient-dependent, rate-independent thermo-plasticity are developed based on the foregoing thermodynamic relations. In contrast with generalized elasticity, it is shown that plasticity with internal variables is capable of exhibiting noll-simple constitutive response in the absence of higher-order stresses."
