Development of design criteria for simply supported slab-and-girder bridges for specialized military loading system
Abstract
dc:descriptionFinite element was used to analyze thirty slab-and-girder right bridges which are simply supported. All structures were subjected to two different sets of loading, M1A1-Abram Tank, and M1A1 loaded on M1000 Semitrailer. Total fifty-eight analyses were done (thirty for tank loaded on semitrailer and twenty-eight for tank alone) and maximum bending moments and deflections for both exterior and interior girders were calculated. Different parameters, like bridge span, girder spacing, and stiffness parameter were used to define a particular bridge. All the bridges in the study had five girders (all pretensioned I-shaped). Span of the bridge ranged from 40 to 80 feet, and girder spacing varied from 6 to 9 feet.
