Abstract
dc:descriptionThe purpose of the study was to document the pedagogical beliefs, knowledge, skills and understandings manifested by an exemplary band conductor--Harry Begian. Four questions guided the study: (1) What personal, educational and professional experiences does Begian consider significant in his development as a musician and conductor? (2) What are the major tenets of Begian's philosophical position relative to bands and band conducting? (3) In what ways and to what extent are Begian's philosophical tenets reflected in his teaching of conducting? (4) In what ways and to what extent are Begian's philosophical tenets and principles reflected in his teaching and conducting of bands?
