A study of students with community college backgrounds in secondary teacher education

Abstract

dc:description

Students in the secondary teacher education curricula of mathematics, science, English, social studies, and foreign languages were studied during the Spring Semester, 1991, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Using a survey and data base searches, information was gathered on academic and personal backgrounds of these students, including students' attendance at a community college, students' concerns in completing their programs at UIUC, and students' goals of entering and remaining in the teaching profession. Follow-up interviews were scheduled with seven students who had earned over 50 semester hours at community colleges.
