High-resolution spectroscopic investigations of rovibrational state mixing in ground electronic states

High resolution spectroscopic studies of rovibrational state mixing in the ground electronic state of the molecules methyl glyoxal and methyl formate are presented. The technique of Stimulated Emission Pumping (SEP) spectroscopy is used to examine the effect of an intramolecular van der Waals interaction on intermode coupling of the carbonyl vibrational modes in methyl glyoxal. Rovibrational state mixing in the aldehyde CH stretching region of methyl formate is investigated by the technique of infrared fluorescence, utilizing a high resolution (0.001 cm$\sp{-1}$) Optical Parametric Oscillator to obtain fluorescence excitation spectra and dispersed fluorescence spectra of single molecular eigenstates.
