Additive manufacturing of sandwich structures using dual UV-thermal cured, continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermosetting polymer

Abstract

dc:description

This thesis explores the development in mechanical and structural properties of sandwich composites through innovative 3D printing techniques, focusing on Continuous Fiber 3D Printing (CF3D) using a dual Ultraviolet (UV) - Thermal cured thermosetting polymer. The research mainly deals with the shortcomings of the conventional sandwich structures, which usually rely on adhesives to bond the skin to the core, resulting in possible weaknesses at the bonding interface. This study presents a novel approach that prints skin and core integrally during the manufacturing without the use of adhesives, which improves the structural integrity and uniformity of the sandwich composite structure.
