Modeling of fluid-structure interaction with fracturing using peridynamics

Abstract

dc:description

This research explores the simulation of fluid-solid interactions using the NGA2, a computational tool that integrates fluid dynamics and solid mechanics. By examining various Reynolds numbers, the study focuses on critical output variables such as bond force, dilatation, failure fracture, and velocity, using advanced visualization techniques in Paraview. These analyses provide significant insights into the complex dynamics of fluid-solid interactions, contributing to the field of computational mechanics. Central to this study is the detailed formulation and implementation of numerical methods within the NGA2 framework. This includes an in-depth examination of object_class.f90, channel_class.f90, and simulation.f90 files, covering initialization, geometric setup, processing, and finalization stages. The use of the semi-implicit Crank-Nicolson scheme for temporal integration is highlighted for its precision in capturing fluid-solid interplays. A comprehensive review of boundary condition treatments, including Dirichlet, Neumann, periodic, and ghost cell conditions, is also provided. The root directory structure of NGA2 is thoroughly analyzed, emphasizing key files like linsol_class.f90 and fft2d_class.f90, hypre_str_class.f90, and lss_class.f90. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the NGA2 peridynamics solver in advancing the understanding of fluid-solid interactions. This thesis offers a detailed, reproducible methodology, serving as a valuable resource for experts in computational mechanics, particularly in fluid and structural mechanics. The results enhance theoretical knowledge and have practical implications for engineering applications in aerospace, civil engineering, and materials science.
