Single-phase heat transfer performance for R515B, R12333zd(E) and water on micro- and nano-structures
Abstract
dc:descriptionSingle-phase heat transfer is crucial in various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, particularly single-phase heat pumps. Understanding the thermohydraulic performance of single-phase flows is essential for calibrating and verifying experimental setups in research labs and industrial systems before delving into two-phase heat transfer studies. Past research warrants deeper analysis of heat transfer enhancements in structurally enhanced tubes. This study examines the heat transfer coefficient enhancement for single-phase flows of R-515B and R1233zd(E) within round circular tubes, comparing the results with Gnielinski’s heat transfer coefficient correlations. Additionally, upgrades to the experimental facility for water flow boiling at the Energy Transport and Research Lab are discussed. The study evaluates micro- and nano-structured surfaces to assess any heat transfer enhancements compared to plain surfaces. Three distinct structures—etched copper micro-nanostructures, boehmite nanostructures, and etched aluminium microstructures—are examined, each with characteristic lengths. This experimental investigation bridges the gap between single-phase heat transfer fundamentals and boundary layer analysis for micro- and nano-surfaces.
