‘Where life is precious’: Towards reproductive justice in information work

In the light of the ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturning Roe v. Wade, I argue information work needs to take a proactive stance to align with Reproductive Justice as a human rights framework for our work, education, and research. To examine existing engagement with this framework, which originated in 1994, I pursued a structured literature review of the term in influential library and information science (LIS) journals by both Scopus CiteScore and Google Scholar h5 median and index. Results show a distinct lack of explicit interaction with this framework within library and information sciences literature for students and practitioners. Additionally, I will illustrate how urgent this framework is to information work as reproductive injustices emerge on new digital stages using a case study of privacy and surveillance in Illinois.
