Design, implementation and effectiveness of ClassTranscribe
Abstract
dc:descriptionClassTranscribe is an accessible online video lecture platform designed with the principles of Universal Design for Learning enriched with Closed Captions produced in real-time using Artificial Intelligence and Crowd-Sourcing, and Searchability for efficient student-directed learning. It is an open-source, cross-platform system, built using modern web-technologies with a microservice architecture enabling scaling to thousands of users and sync with popular media sources and other lecture capture systems. An evaluation of event data collected for a large-enrollment system programming course delivered solely using ClassTranscribe revealed that final exam performance was equal or better to semesters that were delivered by traditional physical lectures. When students were divided into four quartiles based on their grades, the analysis revealed that students who recorded more usage of ClassTranscribe performed better than their peers of the same quartile.
