Effects of the Antiandrogen Cyproterone Acetate on Maturing Male Mice.

Antiandrogens are defined as substances capable of selectively suppressing the biological activity of androgens at their target sites (Dorfman, 1970). In the last two decades, extensive use has been made of antiandrogens, both clinically and as a research tool. They have been used for hirsutism and related problems in women (Cittadini and Barreca, 1977), diseases of the prostate, precocious puberty (Gräf et al., 1974), male contraception (Hammerstein, 1977) and the treatment of male sex offenders (Jeffcoate et al., 1980). Additionally, they have been used as a tool to examine certain androgen-dependent processes, of which the most dramatic is the feminization of male offspring after the pregnant mothers have been treated with antiandrogens (Neumann and Steinbeck, 1974).
