Integrating employees in corporate sustainability innovation

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The integration of consumers in sustainability innovation processes is a promising approach to make these innovations more successfull. However, involving innovative consumers, e.g. lead users, often involves a lot of effort when they have to be identified and recruited from outside of the company. In contrast, recent studies in innovation management literature increasingly point to the innovative potential of employees outside of the R&D department whose official task description does not include the support of corporate innovation. What is largely overlooked here, however, is that these employees always also have a private life in which they are consumers with consumption-related knowledge and experiences that are very valuable for corporate innovation processes. Before this background, this dissertation explores the integration of employees in corporate sustainability innovation with special consideration of their consumer role. The following central research questions are addressed: 1. What is the potential of employees for corporate sustainability innovation processes? 2. How can companies integrate employees in corporate sustainability innovation processes to use this potential?
