DEVELOPMENT OF REAL-WORLD SMART ELECTROMAGNETIC ENVIRONMENTS AND LARGE-SCALE EXPERIMENTAL DEMONSTRATIONS
Abstract
dc:descriptionIn the present thesis, an innovative research activity on the design of passive and static Electromagnetic Skins (EMS ) for the development of an innovative paradigm known as smart electromagnetic environment (SEME), which aim is to improve the indoor wireless coverage without using additional transmitting stations and more power, is presented and experimentally validated. After a brief introduction, the mathematical formulation is resumed from few previous work. After that, an innovative method for the development and validation, in the real-world and using intentionally non-advanced tools, of the SEME paradigm is presented and comprehensively detailed. Before the conclusions, some real-world experimentations are illustrated and commented. The demonstrations show that the SEME paradigm works in a simulations-predicted manner, ensuring beneficial effects on metrics closer to the end-user, such as download and upload speeds, as well as in terms of received power.
