A Summative Evaluation of Southwest Texas State University's African-American Freshman Leadership Conference

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to study the effects of participation in SWT's African-American Freshman Leadership Conference on the following variables: GPAs, retention rates, level of satisfaction, and the extent of involvement of African-American students who either attended or participated in the development and implementation of the conference. The study will review these effects for the Spring and Fall semesters following initial involvement in SWT's AAFLC. The conference has been in existence since 1993. The study revealed that there were no significant differences between AAFLC participants and non-participants in mean GPAs, retention rates, and reported level of campus involvement between groups. However there was a significant difference between the two groups in level of satisfaction with various aspects of their university experience. The results and implications are discussed.
