A Study of Semantic Association and Reference in the Visual World Paradigm
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>This study provides an in-depth look at how the memory and language systems interact during spoken language comprehension. Experiment 1 examines how the strength of associative relationships in memory, as measured by lexical co-occurrence based corpus-derived scores (Mutual Information), affects spoken sentence comprehension. Experiment 2 examines the role of associative relationship in processing repeated discourse references back to the target item. Taken together, these experiments offer a look at the combined impact memory and language constraints have on spoken language processing at the sentence and discourse levels.</p>
