Quebec is the only Canadian province to have enshrined in legislation the right of the patient to choose their professional and institution. This essay relates the historic and the legislatives foundations of this right in Quebec. Furthermore, this essay aims to be a reflection on the right to choose in the light of the last organizational changes of the Quebec' system sociosanitaire made during the reform. These organizational changes, which followed the recommendations of the Committee Clair, seem to have created certain narrowings in the right to choose.
