Groundwater investigation in the vicinity of Morden, Manitoba

During the summer of 1967, an investigation of the areal ground-water conditions in the vicinity of Morden, Manitoba, was carried out. The study was prompted by concern about deteriorating and dying vegetation on the Canada Department of Agriculture Research Station at Morden, believed to have been caused by a rise in the water table and an increase in ground-water salinity. In addition to other studies pertinent to an overall understanding of the problem, the present investigation examines ground-water conditions in the area with respect to natural ground-water flow phenomena, hydrogeochemistry, and possible ground-water seepage out of Lake Minnewasta. The results of the investigation show that many natural ground-water recharge and discharge areas exist in the general region and that the problem on the Experimental Farm is one of local ground-water discharge. It is also demonstrated that the ground-water salinity in the vicinity of the problem area is very high. The probability that seepage from Lake Minnewasta caused and sustained a high water table on the Experimental Farm is small. Note:Page 59, 111, and 117 all contain clear overlay pages.
