The study was prompted by concern about deteriorating and dying vegetation on the Canada Department of Agriculture Research Station at Morden, believed to have been caused by a rise in the water table and an increase in ground-water salinity. In addition to other studies pertinent to an overall understanding of the problem, the present investigation examines ground-water conditions in the area with respect to natural ground-water flow phenomena, hydrogeochemistry, and possible ground-water seepage out of Lake Minnewasta. The results of the investigation show that many natural ground-water recharge and discharge areas exist in the general region and that the problem on the Experimental Farm is one of local ground-water discharge. It is also demonstrated that the ground-water salinity in the vicinity of the problem area is very high. The probability that seepage from Lake Minnewasta caused and sustained a high water table on the Experimental Farm is small. Note:Page 59, 111, and 117 all contain clear overlay pages.
