The Role of Love in Leadership: Maintaining Healthy Boundaries
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis explored how to promote love-led leadership while maintaining healthy boundaries in the nonprofit sector. The methodology was action research and the methods included photovoice and a survey. This study yielded four findings, four conclusions, and three recommendations. Key findings indicated that love-led leadership embodies the values of compassion and empathy and is best practised in organizations in which values are highlighted and honoured. Additionally, participants suggested enacting love-led leadership while maintaining healthy boundaries gives rise to practical challenges. The recommendations suggest that nonprofits encourage clear and healthy boundaries, continue to embody compassion, respect, responsibility, and empathy as leaders and frontline staff, and establish individual organizational values. Calls for future research include documenting how love-led leadership is enacted within the context of clear professional boundaries.
