A study of the predictive validity of the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test and the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge at the 4th, 5th and 6th grade levels

<p>The purpose of this study was to determine the predictive validity of reading achievement scores obtained using the <em>Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test</em> and student performance on the Language Arts Literacy section on the <em>New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge</em> using a sample of students from the Gloucester City School District. Success For All has been implemented in the Gloucester City School District for over eight years as a Whole School Reform Model to raise student achievement in reading and language arts literacy. The effectiveness of this program was measured by using data collected from the <em>Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test</em> and the <em>New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge Language Arts Literacy</em> over a sequential three- year span. The sample used for this study included a total of thirty students in a variety of classroom settings; however, all of the students in the sample were instructed using the Success for All Reading Program. The results of the data showed that prediction of the level of student performance on the <em>New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge Language Arts Literacy</em> can be ascertained with a high degree of reliability by the scores obtained on the <em>Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test.</em></p>
