Development of a hardware management system interface for a wireless kine measurement unit

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Utilizing electromyography (EMG) and inertial measurement unit (IMU) technologies in physiotherapy and sports training opens up many possibilities for enhancing rehabilitation, improving the overall quality of patient care, and optimizing athletic performance. However, the application is often hindered by its complexity and cumbersome wired setups. While rich in functionality, advanced sensor systems can present a steep learning curve. To address these challenges, this project proposes the development of a hardware management system interface. This system integrates sockets to create a client-server architecture and harnesses Bluetooth technology to streamline the user experience with complex sensor systems. The system simplifies and enables the users to interact with the Kine Measurement Unit developed by the company Kiso. Creating a communication framework, the system manages data transmission and interaction from the user in real time and sets out to simplify the operational complexities of these sensors in the context of research and data collection. The interface gives users access and control to the extensive capabilities of the sensors through intuitive function calls. By utilizing sockets, the software client can be created in the user's preferred platforms and programming languages, reducing the learning curve associated with learning new tools. As a result, this project sets out to provide a versatile and accessible solution for harnessing the usage potential of the Kine Measurement Unit.
