Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>Cross sections were measured for the reaction 1<em>H</em>(<em>e, e</em>′π+)<em> n</em> at the energy <em>W</em> = 1.95 GeV and momentum transfer <em>Q</em>2 = 0.6 (GeV/c)2. At this <em>W</em> and <em>Q</em>2, the longitudinal cross section is dominated by t-channel production, giving a unique opportunity to examine the strong coupling form factor <em>g</em>π<em>NN</em>(<em>t</em>). The measured cross sections were separated using a method similar to a Rosenbluth separation. For the extraction of <em>g</em>π<em>NN</em>(<em>t</em>), the Actor and Körner model [42] and a parameterization of the MAID2000 model [3] were employed to fit the longitudinal cross section. Three parameterizations <em>g</em>π<em>NN</em>(<em>t</em>) were used in both models. These fits resulted in a strong coupling constant <em>g</em>π<em>NN</em>[m2π] that is consistent with theoretical predictions. However, this coupling constant leads to a cutoff parameter that is less than 1 GeV.</p>
