An Augmented Reality-Based Hybrid Approach to Facility Layout Planning
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn this research, an AR-based hybrid approach to facility layout planning (FLP) is proposed (ARHFLP). By integrating mathematical modelling techniques with AR, the ARHFLP approach is designed to address FLP for existing shopfloors (FLPES). An AR-based fast modelling technique and a generic method for formulating mathematical models for FLP are developed (GMCC). In ARHFLP, the fast modelling technique is employed as a data collection method for building virtual models for the existing facilities, and GMCC provides an adaptable method for the users to define and customize the criteria and constraints in real-time to better meet the specific requirements of different FLP/FLPES tasks. The FLP problems are formulated as MADM (multiple attribute decision making) models. Two planning modes are provided, viz., information-aided on-site manual planning and AHP?GA based automatic planning. Human intelligence and the mathematical optimization techniques are utilized to facilitate the layout planning and evaluation processes.
