The Methodology of Loop Quantum Gravity

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This work is a review of the quantization method used to formulate Loop Quantum Gravity, a proposed quantum theory of gravity developed in recent years from the quantization of General Relativity in connection variables. Loop Quantum Gravity is known to have the property of background independence in contrary to other contemporary approaches to quantum gravity. This work mainly consists of a literature review of Dirac constraint analysis, Dirac canonical quantization and improvements to it made by Loop Quantum Gravity researchers. The last part of this work contains an original work of the author, an abstract proof showing that the postulates - general covariance and background independence of a classical theory imply the postulate - diffeomorphism invariance.
