THE ROLE OF FAM3C IN LUNG CANCER METASTASIS

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths worldwide. The mechanisms of lung cancer metastasis are not completely understood. This field of research has garnered renewed interest ever since the discovery of vesicle-based cell-cell communication mediated by exosomes. In this study, through comparative proteomics analyses of lung cancer cell-derived exosomes, a panel of biomarkers were shortlisted based on bioinformatics analysis. Our in vitro findings on exosomal FAM3C presence in tumour cells have been verified in clinical samples. We demonstrated that cellular FAM3C induced lung cancer invasion and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Next, we screened a library of anti-cancer drugs against the FAM3C axis and identified several hit molecules which could disrupt FAM3C driven cancer proliferation. In conclusion, FAM3C is a metastatic driver in lung cancer and can serve as a potential target for therapeutic intervention with metastasis of lung cancer.
