Operating room fire management simulation and instructional video

Simulation education has been widely adopted in nursing education to develop practice-ready nursing professionals and correct suboptimal practice patterns. The aviation industry first used simulation to develop psychometric, critical thinking, and crisis management skills among pilots. This approach to safety quickly expanded to other high-risk industries, including health care (Imbriaco, 2021). The use of high-fidelity simulation (HFS) within a curriculum provides students an opportunity to experience high-impact, low-frequency (HILF) clinical events that they may not experience during their clinical training. Practicing these infrequent but potentially catastrophic scenarios supports the development of deliberate practice skills. The purpose of this project is to develop an intraoperative fire HFS and best practices video.
