Design and implementation of an automatic poly registration control system in a hygienic industry

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The main objective of this thesis is the design and implementation of a global and automatic poly registration manufacturing system in diaper industry. The project is implemented and administrated by Irving Personal Care (IPC). The results obtained allowed IPC to grow, compete in the diaper market and produce a new supreme diaper with fully registered poly material. The trial and error method used to resolve the pitch variation issue did not take into account the rapid rate of change of the pre-printed poly pitch. To solve the problem, a comparison between a conventional Proportional-Integral (PI) controller and a Fuzzy-logic (FL) approach are considered. The simulation results clearly showed the superior performance of the FL controller which will be eventually implemented in the manufacturing process.
