States of learning in paired-associate learning as a function of stimulus or response meaningfulness

"Paired-associate learning has been used extensively in the attempt to understand how associations are formed. Some workers have proposed hypothetical constructs which supposedly represent the processes underlying the forming of associations. More recently, others have proposed mathematical models to describe the sequences of correct and incorrect responses which ordinarily constitute the raw data from learning experiments. The present study reports an attempt to determine the effect of varying stimulus or response meaningfulness on the fit of submodels of a general inhomogeneous Markov model to the data."
