America the Vulnerable: Terrorist Threats Using Biological and Chemical Weapons

The events of September 11th have shown that Islamic terrorist groups have the means and the will to inflict substantial damage to the United States. This thesis sought to determine the threat posed by terrorists using biological and chemical weapons. The evidence provided in this thesis has demonstrated that the threat from terrorists using these weapons would not likely result in catastrophic destruction. Futhermore, if citizens become informed about epidemiological risk factors from biological and chemical weapons, the impact from an attack using such weapons would be reduced. Constructive and informative policies should be implemented by authorities to diminish unwarranted panic among the population, as it pertains to biological and chemical weapons used by terrorists.
