Self-Concept and Reading Achievement in a Foster Care Group Home

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-concept and reading achievement for children in a foster care group home. The paragraph comprehension subtest of the The Nelson Reading Test and the Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale (The Way I Feel About Myself) were administered to twenty-three residents of a foster care group home. A significant relationship between self-concept and reading achievement at the .025 level was obtained from the results of the tests using the Pearson product-moment technique.
